Activities on Bonaire: there are plenty of them!
Activities on Bonaire you can do a lot of things. First, Bonaire is one of the most beautiful diving destinations in the world, diving and snorkeling are really recommended when you’re on Bonaire. Second, the wind on Bonaire offers an excellent opportunity to sail and/or windsurf.
But Bonaire is more than that, much more! For nature lovers there is the Washington Slagbaai National Park, a beautiful nature reserve with a great variety of flora and fauna. But the island itself also offers beautiful nature, which you can reach easily by car. One example is the Goto Meer (lake), one of the four breeding grounds in the world for flamingos. You can observe the pink colored birds fantastic over here! But on the island lives more than just the flamingo: the island has a total of 170 different bird species!
Another one of the great activities on Bonaire, don’t miss the mangrove forests at Lac Cai, a lake on the east side of Bonaire and a great place to take a guided kayak tour or take a seat in a whispering boat, a very quiet, electrically driven boat. This is truly an unforgettable experience, even the recordings of the BBC show “secrets of the Carribean” has taken place here!
Bonaire offers besides the beautiful nature, also a number of sights. Seru Largu for example is a hill, with on the top a large cross that you can see from far. The ride to this hill gives an amazing view over Bonaire, Klein Bonaire and the ocean all around the island, which is certainly worth a photo moment. Furthermore, you can find on Bonaire a number of renovated slave cabins, on the coastway to the south. These cabins form a lasting memory at the slavery that has taken place on Bonaire.
Nevertheless, Bonaire offers a lot by day, but also in the evening you can do a lot! There are tasteful restaurants, nice terraces, good local eateries and cozy bars all over the island. If you like good food and drinks, on Bonaire you allways find the right spot. And besides the good food and drinks, Bonaire is a real live music island! For example, Lac Bay is often crowded on sunday afternoon and evening, because several bands are playing here. Every day Happy Hour takes place in Kralendijk, where you simply can enjoy great cocktails, delicious (local) snacks and good live music! Thus, daytime and evening: plenty activities on Bonaire!
